The Binaural version.

This sound piece was a part of my exhibition Du skulle vise meg verden, men så blendet du meg isteden at Østfold Kunstsenter in Fredrikstad. Norway. 26.03-29.05 2022.
 The length of the Sound piece is 43:18 min. It is made in third order ambisonics and was played on a 8.1 speaker setup. In the gallery there was 364 drawings, size A4, on the wall.

"You were supposed to show me the world, but then you blinded me instead". This is the google translation of the title. I don't like the translation. There is a bitterness in it that is not in my Norwegian title. It suggests a negative context. The Norwegian version has more of a neutral meaning i think. I wanted the name of the exhibition to have an open title, both negative and positive, hope and despair, love and hate. If a door is being shut, another one opens up, in an (almost)never ending sequence.
I composed this sound piece for my exhibition with field recordings, samples, abstract sounds from synths and recordings from all things making a sound. Processing the hell out of it, I was making series of abstract soundscapes, turning it into cinematic sound images with an ever-changing enveloping soundscape where sequences constantly build up tension with an expectation that something unexpected will happen. This tension was reinforced in the drawings expressive contrasts from the humorous to the grotesque.

A friendly listening advice. Use some good headphones for the ultimate listening experience. Even though this version of the piece is made for binaural listening it is also sounding good on your speakers.

This is an integral version of the original third order ambisonics sound installation Arne Borgan did at Østfold Kunstsenter in Fredrikstad in spring 2022. The piece was presented on an 8.1 speaker system accompanying Arne’s drawings displayed on the walls. This version is a binaural reduction made for listening on headphones, more or less mimicking standing in the middle of the gallery space surrounded by the sound. I was helping out with some ambisonics tools Arne could create the piece with, subsequently helping him install the installation and tweak it to the room acoustics. And now finally folding down the sound into a binaural format for you to enjoy on your headphones.
